It is narrated in a Hadith Qudsi that Allah will say on the Day of Judgement, ‘...Son of Adam, I needed food but you did not feed Me.’ ‘My Lord, How could I feed You when You are the Lord of the Worlds?’ ‘Did you not know that one of My servants was hungry but you did not feed him? If you had fed him you would have found its reward with Me...’
Keeping this Hadith in mind, what should we do when we know that more than 20 million people in East Africa are at risk of starvation according to the UN, the biggest crisis the world is going to face since 1945.
In South Sudan 100,000 people are already experiencing famine. Half the country is expected to suffer from extreme hunger by July 2017.
In Nigeria, 4.4 million are in desperate need of emergency food. Additionally, 400,000 people are living in areas cut off from aid thus suffering famine.
In Yemen, almost two-thirds of the population are hungry. Over 7 million people do not know where their next meal will come from.
Horn of Africa: 18.1 million people are in need of emergency food and water due to severe drought across Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya.
