ICNA Relief Canada will be hosting 6 webinars during the month of Ramadan. Our webinars are going to be live streamed via YouTube. The live stream link will be available on all of our social media accounts. It will also be available directly on this page.
This Ramadan, we are also raising funds to help with our COVID-19 response, Orphan Sponsorship, Zakat, and Fitra / Fidya. Please donate generously.
Zakat is mandatory on every Muslim who meets a certain criteria. Most people choose to donate their Zakat during Ramadan. If you haven't donated your Zakat this year, we highly encourage you to donate during our Ramadan campaign.
Fitra is mandatory upon every affording every family. This year, the price is $10 per family members. Please donate generously. In 2020, we disbursed $362,300 for Zakat-al-fitr. This year, in anticipation of our donation trends, we have already allocated $500,000 so far!
Fidya is mandatory on people who cannot fast due to illness or old age.
Kaffara is mandatory on people who purposely miss a day of fasting or break their fast without a valid reason.Donation & Information about Fitra, Fidya, and Kaffara
Our orphan sponsorship program has grown exponentially over the past few years. Today with the help of our donors we support the education and livelihood of over 6000 orphans globally. This amounts to $2.5 million! We want to maximize our efforts by further expanding our orphan sponsorship program through the generous support of our donors.
Orphans are the most vulnerable members of the society specially in times of war and the chances of them getting exploited increase drastically if they are young girls with no male family member. It is our duty to try and protect them. Oasis of Urfa is a unique project of ICNA Relief Canada. It is a permanent home for about 200 Syrian Orphan girls in the city of Urfa in Turkey. The total cost of building this Orphanage is $800,000.
ICNA Relief Canada has already spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in our COVID-19 relief efforts. We have donated funds to major hospitals in the Greater Toronto Area to purchase needed equipment like ventilators, cardiac monitors, and intensive care beds. We've also invested heavily in our food basket program and have shifted our food banks for door to door delivery.
We're also providing free mental health counselling sessions online. Internationally, we are equipping hospitals in less fortunate areas to better prepare for a surge in COVID-19 patients. This includes providing them with funds to help purchase medical equipment, as well as personal protective equipment. Find out more about our COVID-19 efforts here.
